August 1998 - Present

Part-time for MattNet Consultants, where I buy and sell computer hardware and software and build computer systems. This include setting up networked environments (LANs). I also troubleshoot and repair clients’ hardware, software and networks. My duties include assessing clients’ computing needs and fulfilling the need (hardware and software). Where necessary I also provide training for users.

August 1996 - August 1998

Part-time consultant for Rontawuli Tours and Travel. I did web page development and website maintenance, maintained the company network, and rendered hardware and software support to users. I also maintained an e-zine and mailing list on tourism in South Africa.

In addition I made decisions on what software and hardware to acquire, and did customer service.

The company closed down when the owners decided to move into IT.

December 1989 to the present

South African Police Service.

After basic police training, the South African Police Service posted me to Riot Unit 3 in Soweto, where I worked for four years.

After the birth of my eldest daughter I applied to be transferred to the SAPS Training College in Pretoria, where I work as a training officer.

Due to my knowledge of and interest in computers the training college transferred me to the Computer Training department in 1997, but because no recruits were trained during 1997, I applied to be employed as a trainer at the Field Training Officer Training Section (Training of Trainers). When the police finally employed new recruits I continue training trainers, but as the program makes use of many guest speakers, and I am a trained computer trainer as well, I also give computer training.

The recruits are trained in: Basic Computer literacy, the use of the CAS computer system and WordPerfect. I also train police members in the use of Corel Quattro Pro and Corel Presentations.

Because of my network knowledge, I am the administrator of the Training Classroom LAN (Local Area Network) which consists of 50 networked PCs.
